Hair and Makeup

While you want to look your best for your portraits it's important to have a hairstyle and make-up that also "looks like you".  Unless you are having wedding day pictures made, it's not a great idea to get a dramatic new haircut or wear make-up you wouldn't normally wear.

Everyone, guys included, looks better with at least a little chapstick.  Remember picture days when you were a school kid and the photographer would say "lick your lips"?  Moist lips look good on everyone!

What Not To Wear

This is the first in what I hope will be many articles to come about what NOT to wear to your portrait session.

The first and foremost important thing about what not to wear is anything that isn't what you would normally wear or that is "out of character" for you or your child. This is a portrait- the goal of a portrait is to reveal something of the nature of the person in it.  Likewise, portrait time is not the time to try a dramatically different hairstyle.  Just be beautiful you;)

I won't bring props (hats, teddy bears, etc.) to the session.  For children's sessions, please have your child bring anything that means alot to them such as a favorite toy or blanket.

Be dressed up, if you like, but be prepared for anything during the session.  The typical session could involve running, jumping, laying on the grass, climbing trees, etc.  Children need to be free to express themselves to really capture who they are, so make sure, Moms, that if your little girl is wearing a dress that you are OK with it if it gets a bit smudged during the session.

Please, when participating in a session of two or more subjects, be mindful not to wear clothing that seems out of season with each other.  If one person is wearing a sweater, the other one shouldn't be in a short sleeve t-shirt.
